Summer Sojourn July/August 2018
Before the next Edinburgh Festival begins, there's still time for a few plays in NY.
Of course, don't miss the latest Best of Edinburgh winner, "Borders" by Henry Naylor -- it continues through July 22nd. Discounted tickets are available with the Code NLCT. A huge hit in Edinburgh, Adelaide and the Spoleto Festival last month -- now here!
Each July, I look forward to PTP/NYC coming to Atlantic Two with really smart plays. This year you can see work from Caryl Churchill, Bertolt Brecht and Howard Barker.
A charming addition to the season is "Summer Shorts" at 59e59 -- a grab bag of six new plays. This is an inexpensive way to sample some new, some well-known, writers' one-acts.
I'll be going to the Public for "Fire in Dreamland" which revisits the devastating 1911 Coney Island disaster -- an event I know nothing about!
If you haven't yet, do get a ticket for "The Damned" at the Armory, the rapturously received Avignon production, after Visconti's 1969 film.
Also, anothernudge for " Girls and Boys" with the extraordinary Carey Mulligan at Minetta Lane. I've already seen it and can guarantee -- Carey's performance is on a par with Billie Piper's in "Yerma" and Denise Gough's in "People, Places and Things." Unforgettable.
Run for a seat during the last few weeks of "Conflict" at the Mint. Read this rave from Terry Teachout about both the play and the Mint. I've seen "Conflict" and again give you a guarantee -- you'll love it!
I'll be in Edinburgh for the month of August, searching for the next great writers, directors, actors and plays -- back after Labor Day with a report on what I've discovered there, along with some recommendations for the new Fall season in NY.
Have a wonderful summer. Hope to see you in the theatre -- both in New York and Edinburgh!
